I came to Code after being a registered nurse for a short time. I had/Have-been/Currently-Am developing some Report-like End points for my nursing notes. Started with that back in 2007-2009 After that time due to stress, a declining economy and Being a New Grad suffering from Nursign eating it young. I set off on a journey I started to learn real code and Data-Modeling using Visual Studios LightSwitch in Late 2010 early 2011. I started developing this User Interface for building the back end of my end point and Data-Storage for creating the reference material my end point uses as well as a back end on top of that for Healthcare teams to maintain important Patient Data. I was not able to find work due to lack of experience as a nurse and burnout after handling a 56 patient workload. Determined to build my own form of work I kept at it trusting that since LightSwitch could export to Excel someday I might finish the solution. I just found out last year 2015 that after Office 2013 came out they added the ability to import Relational Data models with PowerPivot and there is an add on for Office 2010 aftermarket. I had been unaware of it due to having an older copy of office. I had also been fight off homelessness going through the routines of survival while also learning to code and taking more college courses when possible. The backend I developed is for the Desktop and uses Entity Framework and Unfortunately Silverlight which was so useful to me will be unsupported after 2020. I managed to get off the streets a few years back as my knee and the stress of homelessness and tragic events of my youth decreased my Mental Health. I`m in subsidized housing still fighting to create this solution. I`m in College Part time with a focus on Web and Mobile Design and into to .Net certification to fill in the gaps left from self training and internet learning. This Dec. I have signed up for a Hack-A-Thon in Bellevue WA This Dec 2016 at my college in hopes of gaining a team advantage to my solution. I know the pieces and were they fit right now for the most part but cannot finish this on my own. I would like to find the right replacement either using internet based UI like CSS and JavaScript or Get a better UI for Desktop developed like WPF or the new Universal App Platform for Windows 10. I`ve been watching Build Tour videos and feel like desktop is still a more capable platform and my projects are more likely to live in Small Servers and Laptops Networked in a Facility. I will miss LightSwitch`s flexibility to be deployed via web or desktop without rewrite and I will miss the RAD (Rapid Application Development) this tool in the past has allowed me to quickly mock up a backend SQL and test how that will effect the workflow of my Applications UI Screens and Controls. Also Extensions for publishing via the Office Integration Pack extension and some others will be missed.
