I used to code pretty well using the original BASIC on a TRS80. After getting an IBM PC I moved onto GWBASIC, then started on TurboPASCAL and TurboC, before being rudely interrupted by the need to work for a living. As a result I stopped coding in formal languages for many years. Since getting my engineering degree, I have been hacking away at HTML, Excel and Matlab. Recently I wanted to improve my online coding skills and go beyond Wordpress/basic HTML and add some real functionality to my websites. I explored my options and finally settled on Python, a language that could not only allow me to code useful stuff on my website, but allow me to explore all sorts of other interesting areas as well. I have always been a fan of data analysis, neural networks and their application to machine learning. Python/tensorflow is perfect for exploring this rapidly expanding field. I have had to start at the beginning again to learn modern coding techniques, but I look forward to the challenge.
