At one time the youngest child (~age 11 circa 1965) to enter the control room at the Dounreay Fast Reactor (breeder reactor). Watched a man wearing nuclear protective clothing, put into position a a huge cylindrical lead shield-hanging from an overhead crane. The reactor had a stuck control rod. Dounreay was an amazing place to explore as a child. As any good child would do, I collected enough dust on my hands to set off the large machine Geiger counter I had to place my hands in, prior to exiting the facility. Dad said, ...go there and wash your hands well... problem solved for me...but not yet for Dounreay.
