The Lodge family owned a grocery shop in Newgate Street, Bishop Auckland, County Durham, United Kingdom. He used to play Squash.
Billy as I used to call him had auburn and when as 12 he was my hero because he had a fight with some ruffians who were cutting off frogs' legs in a parked named, I believe (I was 8), Bishops Park that had a weir.
He went to Singapore to teach after leaving Barnard Castle, County Durham School, where he was a boarder.
He must be about 84 now. My family was in Bishop Auckland because our father was a Captain in the Intelligence Corps interrogating Germany Officers who were prisoners of war from the Bismark that was sunk. When I was ill in bed with mastoid (which was often) I used to hang a long piece of string out of the window and Billy used to tie a box of chocolates to it. He was 12 and I was 8!! He had a cousin named Betty who used to ice-skate.
