BUSINESS HOURS: I work as wireless enterprise helpdesk for Rogers Communications. This is a high level tech job where we solved the largest problems as well as handle escalations from other departments. I have advanced knowledge of most technical aspect with regards to network topology, network traffic, network signalling, and problem solving. There is also a lot of teamwork and politics involved as I am often in the center of solving and coordinating many different people together to solve problems. This is tough job, and I enjoy it very much, as I am really at the center of a lot of things. PERSONAL TIME: I spend probably around 30 hours or more a week studying programming, writing code and socializing with programming related meetup groups. I am developing a web application to help a few of my friends who are freelancers so that their customer can contact them on their website, open a request, and have an easy way to agree on work they need to get completed. I got my MCP cert (70-483) pretty recently. I really enjoyed the challenge, and I feel it helped me stay more disciplined in my studies. It also felt really good to be one step closer to my goal of being a full time dev. WHY I WANT TO BE A DEV: When I am programming, I feel like all my my brain is working together. It is just me, and the problem. It is a very zen experience. I also really like getting better and better every day. With programming, it is clear that there will always be new and exiting things ahead, and that`s great! I feel lucky to be alive in such an exciting time. I want to do what I love every minute of every day even during business hours... WHO AM I: I was originally born in Toronto. At age 7 I moved to France with my family where I stayed until I was 15. I graduated high school in Saint John NB. Later, I moved to Moncton NB where I started out working for Rogers Technical Support for high-speed Internet while pursuing a business admin degree. Eventually I chose to work full time rather than pursue my degree. I eventually was promoted to second level. More recently, I decided to leave Rogers to move to Montreal. Once in Montreal, I was rehired by Rogers as Enterprise Wireless Support. At one point I decided to take some computer science courses from Athabasa University, which I did well in. I have considered finishing a computer science degree, but instead I have decided to directly learn how to program, and just become amazingly good at it. I have made huge progress, and I would say I can at least keep up with most of the developers I know. I believe the ability to self-teach is the single most important skill to have. I am really looking for that first opportunity to do this full time and become the best programmer I can be. I do not take anything for granted.
