I have been a member of stackoverflow since june 2012. Still I have no reputation! Any questions I have needed to ask are not answered here. I can search a question and not find any related posts or the question is too difficult to wrap thought around and write it out it the curt fashion that gets attention. In balancing time involved in quest and time involved testing to resolve a question I opt to test it out myself. In general I find with many of the posts here on stackoverflow the answers could have been resolved by the individual had they tested to resolve it themselves. I also find that because of this lack of testing before the question is asked the answers given here on stackoverflow are shallow and not worth much time reviewing, most of the time. What I find is there is a lack of teaching how to resolve and test a question. Answers are either given or denied depending on the watch-dog attitude of the first responders to the post. Once one first responder watch-dog has declared a post not worth answering that post gets no more action. A good point that exposes this behavior is when a question asks for general direction and not a definite targeted coding problem. Instead of explaining to the question seeker what books to read or what the naming of what they are looking for the response has been that the question is too broad. It is as if the only incentive here at stackoverflow is to gratify a reputation and not to actually help a person along. Rather than declare a post humiliatingly not adequate how about we tell the question seeker where to read about what they need to know so that they can come back and ask again a better phrased question in case their question has not been resolved. Ironic is the attitude among the community in order to avoid giving code hackers a free ride is that there is a test of sorts to try and make sure the person asking a question has spent time and effort in a show of proof that they are sincere programers and once that test has been passed then just give them the answer and collect a reputation. This is not good for me! I do not want any one of you to write down my formulas, commands script! What I need is the same as everyone; I need to know why I am doing what I am doing. This way I do not have to keep coming back here drawing precious time away from accomplishments else where. What good is it for one of you to write a script that I can not read? Does this not break the first rule not to give code hackers a free ride? O.k. I am done. That is enough about me. Profile ©
