First, a disclaimer, of sorts. Please don’t judge my grammar and usage too harshly here. I wanted to Use more of a prose style in describing me. I am American-born. English is my first language. At a certain point in my life I had to admit that I had a love/hate relationship with the English language. I studied music in college, with an emphasis in voice, simply because I have always loved music, both listening to it and making it. So good pronunciation, including inflection and diction, were always up front and center in that time of my life. (Wow. Does anyone even utter the word “diction†anymore?) I have always loved to sing, although problems with anxiety and short-term memorization kept me from pursuing music as a career. But I survived, and ended up making a decent living in the quality department at a pharmaceutical company. My job functions for my last 13 years in that company involved revising and writing the paperwork used to manufacture some of the drugs that it produced. I was just one member of the small group of people performing these functions, But we each had our own specific areas of writing skills. I always had a love for what I call “good Englishâ€, so I eventually became the on-site “expert†on English grammar, usage, vocabulary, syntax, etc. I was laid off in 2013, but my love for good English did not fade, and I still “correct“ others whenever they have made any number of errors with regard to grammar and usage. There may be a few others out there who are aware of the social friction that can cause. I know that all aspects of the English language tend to change a little over time, especially between generations. However, in my opinion, I think that, in general, people have just gotten lazier and lazier in their efforts to employ good English, even in the loosest sense of the term. As a result, I think that clear, accurate and succinct communication in speech and, to a lesser extent, the written word, has suffered. Consequently, my earlier love of good English has evolved into a QUEST to hear it and see it AGAIN! Anyway, one day, in my search for an answer to one of my many grammar questions, I found this website. I not only got the answer to my question, but discovered that I just enjoyed wandering through the site. I want to keep coming back here to ask questions and, maybe someday, to answer the questions of others. So here I am.
