I was previously in the medical field as a dental technician for over 8 years and in that time I`ve witnessed the technology surrounding it become both significantly more advanced and affordable. Due to these advancements, my day to day responsibilities had become more automated and the challenges that I once enjoyed disappeared. I knew a change in my professional career had to be made. After a year of self-study, I came to discover that I had a real passion for coding. It offered what I had been seeking, problem-solving and a plethora of material to be learned. I ultimately joined Launch Academy, an immersive coding boot camp in downtown Boston, and it solidified my love for coding. During my time at Launch, I completed 2 projects. The first was in a group setting and it was a great opportunity to gain experience coding in a group setting. My team created a simple review site for Harley Davidson Motorcycles with the goal to gain practical experience utilizing version control with GitHub and to incorporate full CRUD functionality. The second was a solo project and was a culmination of everything I had learned at Launch. I chose to create a scorecard application for another passion of mine, golf. This was also another great experience for me and offered me a chance to develop an app from the initial steps of creating ER diagrams to the final steps of deploying to Heroku. Both projects used Ruby on Rails for the back-end, React.Js for the front-end, and PostgreSQL for the database. After Launch, I took part in and help complete a calendar application for a local company in Waltham. The goal of the application was to help the company organize and schedule company outings and events for their employees. It utilized Nokogiri, a web crawler, to gather data from the company`s various sources and created a central location for all the events. Selected events could be placed into the React calendar and it helped the company both save time and simplified the process for scheduling events. Currently, I am continuing my studies with a focus on React and spend at least 40 hours each week learning and practicing. Outside of coding I am an avid foodie and love discovering and exploring all that Boston has to offer with my wife and friends. I enjoy competitive board games and believe it is a fantastic way to end the week and if the weather is nice nothing beats a round of golf.
