I am passionate about coding but am no whizzkid. Coding really hooks me in cerebrally and is a fantastic escape from the madding crowd. Especially now that I am getting into Python. I really love Python but have a lot to learn before I can find work - web scraping using Beautiful Soup is on my bucket list, as is Java which I hope to pick up, next semester; I suspect this will be a lot less fun than Python. JavaScript is unrelated of course to Java, but that`s also on my list. I regret not having a background in C or C++. I coded for two decades in CA-Clipper, which was the foundation of the programming environment when I was employed at an asset management company. Proof-reading, SQL, R, web-design, Steve Jobs(*), good books and foreign movies, the cello, J.S. Bach, L.Beethoven, Eric Satie, Picasso, Matisse, Hockney, Hilary Mantell, Joel Dicker, Alice Munroe, Margaret Atwood, Afrikaans art movies, miniature dachshunds and Siamese Cats are other loves of mine. I am absolutely crazy about good writing! My world turns on a word and I hope that my tendency to edit will be tolerated. I shall temper this with the awareness that English is not everyone`s mother language; while I have an excellent command of English, it is my sole language apart from Afrikaans and Italian. (*) Walter Isaacson`s compelling biography of Steve Jobs converted me to Apple. I do not yet have a Mac (am happy for now with a Dell i7) but have an iPhone and iPad. Jobs loved the cello and asked Yo-Yo Ma to play a Bach suite at his wedding to Laurene Powell; Ma was away for the wedding, but he played at Steve`s funeral.
