I love coding. I started coding in the early 90s right before Windows 3.0 came out. So my coding experience in COBAL, Pascal was formalized but I had no idea how old-school it was about to become. Today I dabble in PHP, decent with HTML and mostly I write in scripting languages, mainly BASH. I`ve been doing Linux (Ubuntu mainly) non-stop since 2008. I had dabbled in Linux before that in the earlier 2000s but I didn`t have enough *NIX knowledge to install the distroseffectively. Oh and the main reason I even dove into the Linux world is that I built my first 64bit machine and just assumed Windows had 64 bit versions in 2004. They did not. So I wanted to use the investment SOMEHOW and linux did have 64 bit distros. They`ve become easier to install now of course. I build my own servers and run Ubuntu Servers for in-house data through Samba and to interface with my online activities through ssh. For parents (I`m not a parent just older) BASH scripting would be a great way to introduce coding to your kids if they have an interest or aptitude. I`m not sure of the timeline - we may already be there but it is predicted that graduates with computer science degrees will be critically lower than the industry demand for them. Even celebrities like Will.I.Am and others think coding is the most important thing in the world to learn.
