I started programming when the first pc from Radio Shack was given to my school in 1981. These pcs had only 5 1/4" floppy drives, and we were given a couple of text based games in basic. There were yet to be any programming books to buy. Myself and a friend started breaking into the basic code to figure out how to make the game easier. We then advanced to writing our own text based game. Example: You see blah blah blah; Select an Action: Turn [R]ight Turn [L]eft [G]o Straight etc. Having the opportunity to be involved and watch as computers went from tape drives to today when we have yesterdays super computer in our pocket that we call a smart phone, has been awesome. With today`s tools, most logically oriented people can learn to program. In my day, there were not books or instructions, so you either figured it out, or you quit and went to play baseball. Not being a quitter, I have been coding since. In 1994, I joined Lacerte Tax Software`s core development team of 5(including myself), and we reengineered Lacerte Tax for Windows as the first 32 bit Windows tax package. We hit #1 in the market, and Intuit later came in and paid $400 million for the company, but mainly for the product with it`s 35,000+ network installations of users from 1 to 20. Intuit now sells Lacerte Tax Software as their ProConnect Series and it is still #1 in the mid level tax software market after 23 years. We must have done something correctly. I did take a brief hiatus, as I spent 8 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserves. That allowed me to obtain a college degree, and eventually to where I own my own software company that provides case management solutions to nonprofits throughout the U.S. We currently have federally funded agencies using our product Agency View-Point in 32 states including Hawaii and these are managing career service (employment and training grants from the U.S. Department of Labor. After many years as a Delphi guru, I am not doing fullstack development using ASP.Net Core with Blazor. We are in the process of rewriting/ rearchitecting our product using a 3-tier model and we will initially host in Azure using Azure SQL as the back end tier.
