I am a software developer, computer technician, and IT professional. I have performed full-cycle software development, debugging, and enhancements. I have repaired computer laptops, desktops, printers, routers, satellite systems, and TV’s. I have provided network surveillance and generated trouble tickets. I am mostly familiar with older technologies but remain interested in software development. I am currently taking coursework in such areas as HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and Python. I plan to move on from there to whatever might interest me. My career started out well but was destined to falter due to technology change. I have a lot of experience with software development but it has been with languages, hardware, frameworks, and methodologies that no longer are used. Examples are FORTRAN, COBOL, assembler, C, and Visual Basic. Back then, my efforts to keep up with technology were met with resistance. For example, when Java first came out I tried to get my employer interested in using it and met with overwhelming resistance. I know my achievements, aptitudes, and abilities. My career faltered right about the time the internet really took off. I realize that I have to get up to speed on web technologies to be viable again. Ironically, the internet makes it much easier than the old days to learn new skills. I`m excited to see where this part of the journey will take me. I have a good foundation to build on. It`s my conviction based on experience that whether it’s software, hardware, or networks, when I am involved, things get fixed and are better than they were.
