The Statue of Unity is located in the state of Gujarat, India, it is the tallest statue of the world with a height of 182 meters. The height of 182 meters is kept as the Gujarat state has 182 Legislative Assembly seats. It is located on Sadhu island on the Narmada river facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam in Kevadiya Colony. It is nearly 198 km far from Ahmedabad, 92 Km far from Vadodara, 156 Km far from Surat and 388 Km far from Rajkot. The Project was first announced in 2010 by the Honourable Chief Minister Narendra Modi at that time on effecting his 10 years as a CM of Gujarat. At that time the project was called, “Gujarat’s tribute to the nationâ€. The old iron was collected from the farmers all over India which are used in their farm work. The soil from various villages, cities, towns of India is brought for the construction of this status. The contract for Rs 2,989 crore was allocated to Larsen & Toubro company from Government of Gujarat the construction work of the statue was started in October 2013. The Status was designed by the well-known Indian sculptor Ram V. Sutar and inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 31st October 2018 on the 143rd anniversary of Patel’s Birthday. The is separated into five zones among these 3 zones that are available to the public. Start from base to the level of Patel’s shins is in the first zone which includes an exhibition area, roof and mezzanine, a museum and memorial garden. The second zone spreads up to Patel’s thighs. The third zone up to 153 meters till where viewing gallery is for tourists. The fourth zone is the maintenance area and in the fifth zone the head and shoulders of the statue. Larsen & Toubro hired nearly 3000 workers and more than 250 engineers in the construction of Statue. While making this Status 210,000 cubic meters of cement concrete, 6500 tonnes of structural steel and 18500 tonnes of reinforced steel are used. The outside frontage is made of 1700 tonnes of bronze plates and 1850 tonnes of bronze covering which in turn comprise 565 macro and 6000 micro panels
